News (updated March 19, 2005)

I've also finally released at least an update to PocketOgg with some extra stuff, now your storage cards each get a tab in the main viewer, allowing those with older players to finally access those songs on storage cards. I've also improved playback (there used to be clicking problems with 1.2).

Introduction

PocketOgg plays Ogg Vorbis music files on your Pocket PC, it uses the Tremor library for faster decoding on these kind of devices. While it does have most of the features of a rudimentary player, there is still a lot of things to add for it to be a decent music player.

I'm a bit disorganized with things so right now there is my version, and another version by Vermont which I havent incorporated changes as of yet. Mostly because I haven't decided on a licence yet.

Notes on Installing

You should be able to just unzip the file for the processor you have and send it to your pocketpc (and you can probably unzip it and run it, if you got the files through your pocketpc). To choose the correct processor type, if you're not sure, you should be able to check in Start > Settings > System Tab > About. All of the newest devices with a newer PocketPC build such as PocketPC 2002, PocketPC 2003 or Windows Mobile for PocketPC are always ARM.

If the PocketPC is a little older then it may more likely either be ARM or MIPS. There may be SH3 Pocket PCs but I have never heard of any in particular. The binaries are there just in case. Finally, If the "Processor" field shows something like "ARM", "XScale", "Intel PXA", etc. then it is an ARM PocketPC and so you should download the ARM version.

Alternative Builds

These are versions with changes that I haven't integrated into PocketOgg (as of yet).

  • PocketOgg (Vermont's Version) - Adds playlist features and better playback of small oggs, job dials, etc. Needs to be built. I haven't built the source from here yet.
